Before the disaster, rice paddies entirely covered the area from the town road to the sea.
As a result of the disaster, land along the coastline subsided and a series of wetlands emerged.
This area has intentionally been left without human intervention, except for trails, retaining the pre-disaster land division and a landscape reminiscent of the rice paddies, allowing visitors to observe how ecosystems evolve over time.
